To mark World Meningitis Day, Italian Paralympic athlete and mountaineer Andrea Lanfri embarked on an inspiring endurance challenge — completing a non-stop run and cycling route from Marina di Pisa to Monte Serra and back, streaming the entire feat live on his social media channels.

Beginning his journey at 9:00 a.m., Lanfri cycled from the coastal town of Marina di Pisa to the summit of Monte Serra, the highest point of the Pisan Mountains. Once at the peak, he switched from his cycling prostheses to his running blades and ran the 35-kilometre route back to the starting point, completing the full challenge in one continuous effort.

This remarkable endeavor is part of Lanfri’s ongoing project “From 0 to 0”, which symbolizes his journey from sea level (zero meters) to mountain summits and back again — a tribute to perseverance, adaptation, and human resilience.

Lanfri’s motivation runs deep. In 2015, he lost both legs and seven fingers due to fulminant meningococcal septicemia, a severe form of meningitis. Yet through sheer determination and a passion for adventure, he transformed his experience into a mission to raise awareness about meningitis prevention and to inspire others facing life-changing challenges.

Last year, Lanfri made headlines for climbing Mont Blanc, proving that physical limits need not define what’s possible. His latest World Meningitis Day challenge reinforces that message — combining sport, awareness, and advocacy into a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s strength.

About Andrea Lanfri:
Andrea Lanfri is an Italian Paralympic athlete, mountaineer, and motivational figure known for his climbing and endurance feats following his recovery from meningitis. Through his “From 0 to 0” initiative, he continues to inspire global audiences by demonstrating that resilience and courage can overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
